Tabea Mertens is a Hamburg-based artist and graphic designer holding a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design from HAW Hamburg.

Her painting investigates processes of transfer, repetition, and material transformation. Gestures are not directly inscribed but translated through layering and displacement, often developed in series that explore variation within a defined framework.

Alongside her artistic practice, she works as a graphic designer focusing on editorial design, type design, and visual identities. Her work is grounded in systems thinking, where composition and typography shape how content is organized and communicated. She creates coherent visual systems across different media, translating content into structured, consistent, and recognisable visual languages.
